McCandless associate vice president for academic affairs at Texas A&M. The appointment, recommended By President Jarvis E. Miller and Vice President for Academic Affairs J.M. Prescott, is effective im mediately. McCandless, who joined the Uni versity in 1961, has served as direc tor of the Office of Academic Plan ning and Services since April 1974. A 1956 graduate of Texas A&M, McCandless previously held as signments as associate dean of liberal arts, head of the University’s self- study for reaccreditation, associate dean of education, director of the Texas A&M Adjunct in Junction and director of intramural athletics. “Dr. McCandless has been of great assistance in performing ad ministrative assignments, in addi tion to those he was conducting as director of planning,” said Prescott. “This appointment is in recognition of his broader administrative con tributions. ” Prescott said McCandless will continue to be in charge of academic planning and space assignment.
