On a cold snowy day on Water Street — at the Sherlock Holmes Pub — Simpson, 71, had rapt atten tion as he told of his 40 years of crime detection as pathologist for Scotland Yard. The stories he told were of crimes he solved with the barest of details. He said he felt he was similar to Holmes and ‘his remarkable eye for minutiae. Details as small as human gallstones, which Simpson used to trip up a murderer who thought he had committed the perfect crime. In the “Case of the Four Gallstones, a wealthy widow was killed and robbed and her body dumped into a steel drum of sul phuric acid.
