More than 5,000 students lined up over the weekend to pur
chase tickets to the annual T.U.-Texas A&M University foot
ball game. The contest will be held in Austin this year. ABC-
TV will televise the game Friday at 8 p.m. Texas A&M athletic
department spokesmen say T.U. sent 7,783 tickets to A&M
and has promised to send more if they are needed. Aggies

LONDON — A British scientist
believes “excessive sexual behavior
may be as addictive as too much
narcotics or alcohol.
Citing Don Juan, Casanova and
Walter, the otherwise anonymous
Victorian who left 11 volumes of his
amorous exploits to the British Li
brary, Dr. Jim Orford suggests
available evidence supports the
theory that the “dependence” factor
in drugs or drink applies also to
“hypersexuality. ”
Orford, a member of the psychol
ogy department at the University of
Exeter, makes clear in an article in
the British Journal of Addiction,
that sex is a perfectly normal ac
tivity. And he said there is, natur
ally, such wide variation in indi
vidual frequency that heterosexual
behavior which in moderation is
considered in our culture to be
quite normal but which has become
immoderate or excessive. This topic
rarely receives serious scientific at
tention at the present time, and de
pendence theorists rarely see the
need to account for it.
“This is partly because such be
havior rarely presents itself in a clin
ical setting and partly because it is
unfashionable to speak of im
moderate sexual behavior particu
larly when speaking of the behavior
of women who have suffered from
the application of the double
standard in the past. ”
Orford says the subject needs
some better definitions. He is skep
tical of those psychologists who
speculate that people indulging in
ordinately in heterosexual relations
really hate the opposite sex or aren’t
really enjoying themselves.
He looks more kindly on a defini
tion such as “uncontrolled promis
cuity” and quotes with apparent ap
proval the words of another re-
