Starr of AiisIT o their deh year is I national i ith the t n Republican campaign blitz set for media prime time United Press International WASHINGTON — For two weeks this fall, television shows such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “All in the Family,” “Good Morning America,” and the NFL “Game of the Week” will be brought to viewers in part by the Republican Party. Congressional Campaign Com mittee Chairman Guy Vander Jagt, R-Mich., will announce Monday that $800,000 is being spent on an llth-hour blitz of network television advertising. The program’s scale is unmatched by previous efforts of any national campaign committee working for congressional candidates. The committee has bought 21 half-minute spots on CBS and ABC. The advertisements will be aired during the major viewer hours — the early-morning talk shows, eve ning prime time, weekend sports , events and the late movies between Oct. 23 and Nov. 5. Each features a little-known pro fessional announcer, Bryan Clark, whose message is that Republicans can cut government spending and trim the federal bureaucracy. In an advertisement labeled “bu reaucracy,” Clark says the American people are complaining about too much government red tape and the Republicans would like to do some thing about it. “But we haven’t run the Congress in many years,” he said. Then extol ling GOP candidates, he adds, “he or she may be your best chance to fight big government this year.” A spokesman for the committee said the ads are intended to “level some pretty direct criticism at the record the Democrats have a- massed.” The GOP views the television blitz as just one more element of its multi-million dollar campaign to gain seats in Congress this fell.
