The seminar, presented in coop eration with the Governor’s Office of Energy Resources and the Texas Public Utility Commission, will focus on how to conserve energy without sacrificing comfort or prof its. The Bryan-College Station semi nar is one of two dozen seminars being held this year in 20 cities around the state as part of the State Energy Conservation Program. The program’s goal is to achieve a 5 per cent statewide decrease in energy consumption by 1980. “This is a first-time event,” Larry Matheson, assistant manager of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, said. “It’s a form of pub lic information on energy conserva tion for businesses and the general public.” Alvin C. Askew, administrative assistant for energy to Texas for Gov. Dolph Briscoe, will keynote the meeting at 9 a.m. Immediately following Askew’s address, partici pants will break into six concur rent workshops designed specifi cally for local governments, utilities, lending institutions, retail busi nesses, home builders, architects, contractors, public school officials and new commercial builders. Registration for the energy semi nar will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the fifth floor of Rudder Tower. Admis sion is free and the public is wel come. Czech 127 offered despite cancellations Old control tower dismantled Beginning Czech 127 will be of fered this fall. He said that the language is useful, especially because there are so many Czech communities and Czech speakers in this area. Smith stressed that the most re warding part of taking Czech is the summer study program students are able to take during the summer in Czechoslavakia. Those who attend spend six weeks at Charles Univer sity studying the language and the country. Students pay only their transportation to and from Czechos lovakia. Tuition, room and board, and travel within the country are all provided by the Czechoslovak Foreign Institute. Any students who finish beginning Czech or the equivalent are able to attend. Students in the Czech program and Czech Club participate in area ethnic festivals, Smith said. Last year the Czech Club sponsored two polka dances in Snook. “This year we hope to have some Czech films as well as participate in local Czech festivals,” Smith said. Th ose students are looking for their money in the wrong office. The Student Finance Center acts as the banker for student organiza tions and takes orders for graduation announcements. Fay Yeates, the center’s supervisor, said. “We don’t give out financial aid,” Yeates said.
