jf the Frankenstein monster —
inarticulate, stupid, and
humanly-strong creature, not
e the Aggie stereotype,
yone that has read the original
by Mary Shelley will know a

diences are used to seeing
Karloff stomping around and
g gutteral noises,” said direc-
obert Wenck. “Here they’re
; to see Mary Shelley’s creature
ophizing and being rational,”
k said.
is play is the closest of any
r movie I’ve seen to the origi-
ovel,” Wenck said. The
ter, created by Victor Frank
enstein, does not have the brain of a
criminal, as in the movie. Instead, it
came to life feeling quite benevo
lent. Mistreatment by humans
caused it to react with violence.
How will the audience react to
the monster? “I think he actually
comes across as being quite sym
pathetic, Wenck said.
Not totally sympathetic, though,
as it is responsible for several mur
ders in the two-act play. Audiences
are sure to feel some chills.
Whether they will be caused by the
monster’s crimes or its crafty logic
remains to be seen.
The play will open one week from
today. Wenck says that the play is
“G-rated, pure family entertain
ment.” Tickets are on sale at the
MSC box office.
The play is being sponsored by
the Theater Arts Department as its
15th annual summer recreational
theater program. Eight local high
school students make up the cast.
Directing the play is Robert Wenck,
director of Theater Arts at Texas
A&M University.
