I think I could help him a little bit.” There were no plans for Jarvis to go the White House, although he planned to spend the day at the Capitol. Speaking of Carter, Jarvis said, “I think he’s sort of like George McGovern, who made a statement (at the Americans for Democratic Action convention this weekend) he must have got out of the funny pa pers — who said something about it being a racial thing. They’re doing that out of desperation. It’s a stupid statement to make and it takes a first-rate education to understand.” He said his proposal will help low-income minorities because it will reduce rents.
