Myers, Dennard, Williams drafted
By SEAN PETTY
Battalion Staff
The annual National Football
League draft brings tension, anx
iety, relief and happiness to many
seniors who await a call from a pro
team.
Many seniors were not picked.
From the nine Aggies who were eli
gible only three were picked by pro
teams.
The three fortunate men were
Frank Myers, Mark Dennard and
Mike Williams.
Frank Myers was the first Aggie
to be picked. Myers recieved a call
from the Baltimore Colts in the fifth
round.
“They told me I would probably
go in the second or third round, so I
guess I was a little disappointed,”
said Myers. “The higher up in the
draft you go, the more money it is to
you.”
Myers said several of the pro
teams had contacted him before the
draft telling him they were going to
draft him and to be by the phone.
“I had a bunch of guys up in the
room while I was waiting for some
team to call and Baltimore finally
called me,” Myers said.
Myers thought his chances to play
right away were slim because the
Colts have a very experienced offen
sive line, yet he is very optimistic
about his chances and is looking
forward to playing pro football.
ence first team at offensive tackle.
He played in the Hula and Japan
Bowls which are post-season all star
games between the country’s top
college football players.
The next Aggie to be picked
in the draft was Mark Dennard.
Dennard went in the tenth round
to the Miami Dolphins.
“I always wanted to play for the
Dolphins,” Dennard said. “Denver
called me about 10 minutes before
Miami did telling me they were
going to draft me and to wait by the
phone.”
Myers will join former Aggie
linebacker Ed Simonini.
Myers had a successful senior
year for the Aggies. He was votes
unanimous all-Southwest Confer-
Dennard described the relief he
felt upon receiving the call as “a ton
of bricks off my back.
“You wait all day long for some
team to call and the phone rings and

it isn’t a team and you just get
hacked off, ” he said.
Dennard headed for Miami yes
terday for his physical and rookie
orientation. He said his contract will
be worked out through an agent so
he does not have to worry about it.
“Shoot I’m happy,” he said. “I
would rather have gone to Miami in
the tenth round than one of the
teams up north in the 4th or 5th
round,” he added.
Dennard was voted unanimous
all-SWC first team at center. He
also played in the Senior Bowl.
The third and final Aggie to be
drafted was Mike Williams.
Williams was drafted in theTlth
round by the Washington Redskins,
He was not available for comment.
Williams played defensive cor-
nerback for the Aggies and led the
team in interceptions. Williams also
doubled as punt returner for the Ags
averaging 3.4 yards a return. He
had 61 tackles and broke up 17
passes to lead the Aggies in that de
partment.
So for three Aggies who have
been picked it was a relief and a
very happy day, but for the other six
who did not hear from a pro team
they must decide their future out
side of football.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
On Saturday, May 6, the voters of Brazos County will select
the Brazos County Attorney. This office is only important to
those people who ever write checks without sufficient funds;
who ever drive after drinking alcohol; who ever exceed the
speed limit outside the city limits; and those people who
desire to live and work in an academic community free from
fear of crime.
It is said that politicians are afraid to state their positions.
Here is one who is not. I believe the following:
(1)' People associated with TAMU SHOULD NOT receive
any better treatment than other residents of
Brazos County.
(2) People associated with TAMU SHOULD NOT receive
any worse treatment than other residents of
Brazos County.
I firmly believe that the people of Brazos County will get what
they deserve on May 6. I believe they deserve a Brazos County
Attorney of which they can be proud. Your vote and support will
be appreciated.
Sincerely,
o
