[Lindsey of Houston, Joe H. Moore
of Midland and Austin, and James
I. Sewell of Dallas during com
mencement ceremonies here Friday
and Saturday.

59 of Texas A&M’s 86,000
graduates. Distinguished alumnus
recognition is presented by the
University and its alumni organiza
tion, the Association of Former Stu
dents.

Bracewell, a 1938 Texas A&M

wife, Betty, created a revolving
fund for the Texas A&M University
Press, for publication of a series on
Texas art. The Moores have gener
ously aided faculty improvement,
the Aggie club through a 12th Man
Athletic Scholarship, a President’s
Endowed Scholarship and the Texas
A&M Development Foundation.
The Texas A&M educational
television-radio building was named
last fall in his honor.
Sewell, a 1927 Texas A&M
graduate, is president of Standard
Lumber Co., with 51 years experi
ence in refinery management and
oil firms. He was president of Taylor
Oil and Gas Co. and Delhi-Taylor
Oil Corp. for 16 years, until assum
ing the lumber company presidency
in 1968.
His leadership with oil and gas
corporations and a Dallas bank led
him to the presidency of the Mid-
Continent and Texas Oil and Gas
Associations. He now serves on
their boards, as well as the board of
the American Petroleum Institute.
The president of the Association
of Former Students in 1970, Sewell
served in 1961-62 on the Century
Council which provided guidelines
for Texas A&M into its second cen
tury.
He was an Association Student
Loan Fund trustee 20 years and
chairman in 1967-75, a Develop
ment Foundation trustee since 1972
and chairman in 1974.
The Dallas A&M Club recognized
Sewell in 1972 with the Jimmy
Williams Award as the outstanding
Texas A&M man in Dallas.
