    Jiudy Woods is an Aggie
I Rudy Woods, a 6-11 all-American
ifroin Bryan, signed a national
Hetter-of-intpnt Wednesday to at-
Itud Texas A&M on a basketball
jseholarship.
1 "It feels great to be an Aggie,”
Bloods said. “It’s been a dream of
■line to play for Texas A&M since I
[was a little boy. A&M has some
at young players, and I’m looking
|orward to playing with them. My
ily goal is to play for A&M in the
(CCA Tournament.
| Woods signed with A&M prior to
warding a plane to Philadelphia
inhere he will play in an all-star
t igame Saturday. He was voted the
(jMlVP in an all-star game in Houston
gMidalso played in an all-star game in
pi Washington, D.C.
:s ’m Woods was a unanimous choice
^ for the Dallas Times-Herald blue
“ chip list picked by the Southwest
^Conference coaches. He earned
ori ! all-state honors and was three-time
MVP in his high school district. He
Iveraged 22.8 points and 15.4 re
funds in leading Bryan High to a
2-10 record this past season. His
Jiree-year average was 20.7 points
|hile the team had a 79-19 record.
Woods had visited the campuses
jpf Kentucky, Washington, New
exico, USC, Michigan and A&M
fore narrowing his choices down
Kentucky and A&M. He decided
upRunday night after visiting the A&M
mpus that he would sign with the
Aggies.
Signing Rudy was so much fun,
I’d like to go out tomorrow and sign
other player like him,’ A&M
ach Shelby Metcalf said. "This is
mething I’ve looked forward to for
|x years. My wife Janis, my No. 1
cruiter, introduced me to Rudy
hen he was in seventh grade and
e was one of his teachers. Rudy is
a big man with exceptional speed
ad quickness. He’s never been
umsy a day in his life. His coach
obhy Perry did a good job of teach-
ig discipline, and that’s the reason
udy is so team-oriented.
Another individual who was espe-
ially pleased to see Woods sign
r ith A&M was his mother, Ruthie
foods.
“I’m glad it’s over, she said. "1
las a little scared that he might go
[somewhere besides A&M. His
andfather was looking forward to
eing Rudy play in college and now
nee he’ll be playing close by at
&M, he’ll get the chance. Rudy
very impressed with Kentucky
id USC when he visited there. We
Iked it over a lot and I know it
ould have been hard for him to go
mewhere else. 1 think the deeid-
g factor was that he’s always heard
of A&M and always wanted to be an
ggie-“ ;« ,
