The Texas A&M gymnastics team won the state meet held in Bryan this past weekend. In second place was Southwest Texas with 166.65 and the L^niver- sity of Texas finished third with 163.85. All five Aggie women placed in every event with the exception of Laura Shelter who strained tendons on the top of her foot and was un able to complete the meet. In the vault competition, Carolyn Smith of Southwest Texas won first place with a total of 17.1, and Patti Sloat of A&M was second with 16.8. There was a three-way tie for third place between Tanya Hrabal of A&M, Debbie Kratz of Southwest Texas and DeeDee Whitton of TCU, all with a score of 16.45. In the balance beam and uneven parallel bar competitions, the A&M team did a fine job by sweeping all first, second and third places. Hrabal took first (16.7), Sloat was second (16.4) and Kathy Pruett was third (15.85) in the balance beam. In the unevens, Hrabal again took first (16.7), Pruett was second (15.95) and Sloat was third (15.75). In the floor exercises, the Aggies finished well again. Sloat took first place (15.9), Tina Martin was second (15.45) and Patti Wimbish of Texas was third (14.85). Sloat triumphed for the Aggies when she won all-around gymnast. Hrabal finished second in all-around competition. The scores were 64.85 for Sloat and 64.50 for Hrabal. The Aggies will compete next week in a regional meet hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge. They will compete against Oklahoma State University, Oral Roberts, South west Texas and LSU.
