Course in self-defense Policewomen take training Training tor policewomen April 17-21 at Texas A&M University will help the woman officer in dangerous situations. The course will train policewo men in firearms handling, pursuit driving and methods of self protection. The 40-hour, one-week course will aid the women officers in areas not covered in basic training. The course will feature instruction by U.S. Customs Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation specialists and driving experts of the Texas Transportation Institute. “Behind the wheel" instruction will cover accident avoidance, wet weather driving and cornering techniques. The women also will be trained in self-protection and han dling physical resistance. A&M programs get $28,000 aid from Du Pont Students may come ahead of their scheduled time if pictures are needed early. No photographs will be taken for the yearbook after the final makeup date for each class. E.I. Du Pont de Nemours Co. gave $28,000 to Texas A&M Univer sity’s engineering and science pro grams last week. The check included a $7,000 environmental grant for the ocean ography program and $7,000 each for the chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and plant sciences programs said Du Pont spokesman Marie Stewart. President Jarvis E. Miller ac cepted the grant, along with Dr. Gordon Hopkins, head of mechani cal engineering; Dr. Howard Joham, head of plant sciences; Dr. Bill Merrill of oceanography; Dr. Jerry Bullin of chemical engineer ing; Robert L. Walker, vice presi dent for development, and Lou Van Pelt, placement director. Stewart said the Du Pont educa tional support program will distrib ute about $3.3 million to universi ties this year.
