Also announced in conjunction
with formation of the new depart
ment were the appointments of Don
Powell as assistant director and Bill
Hensel as manager of the University
Center.
Cargill was formerly director of
the University Center. The 1953
Texas A&M business administration
graduate joined the staff of his alma
mater in 1961 as a counselor for the
Corps of Cadets after serving as an
area sales manager for Sears
Roebuck and Co. He was named
manager of the Exchange Store in
1965 and promoted to manager of
the University Center in 1973. He
earned a master’s degree in business
administration at Texas A&M in
1963.
Powell worked in operations
management for J.C. Penny Inc. be
fore returning to the university in
1973 as facilities manager for the
University Center. He is a 1956
Texas A&M history graduate. He
earned a master’s degree in educa
tional administration in 1975.
Powell is vice president of the
Texas Aggie Band Association and
chairman of the C.K. Esten Theater
Arts Award Committee.
Hensel, formerly assistant direc
tor for the University Center, re
ceived a B.A. in marketing from
Texas A&M in 1941 and after five
years of military service returned to
join the university stall. He began
his career here as assistant cashier
and property accountant for the fis
cal department, then served 13
years as assistant placement director
and shortcourse director before be
coming conference coordinator for
the Memorial Student Center. He
had been assistant director of the
University Center since 1973.
