The Texas A&M University rodeo
team is off to a good start in this
year’s National Intercollegiate
Rodeo competition.
The Texas A&M men’s team is in
second place in the Southern region
with a total of 491 points, led only
by Sam Houston State University.
Contributing more than one-half
of the A&M teams total points are
the men who compete in the team
roping event.
The Texas A&M women’s team is
doing well also. The women hold
third place in the region with a total
of 186.5 points.
In break-away roping, Linda
Fletcher is in fourth place and Be
verly Acton is in fifth place in the
regional standings.
Kay McMullan, a graduate of
Texas A&M, is leading the goat
tying event with a total of 142
points. McMullan also competed at
the National Intercollegiate Rodeo
Finals last year.
Also contributing to the team’s
total points is Glenda Raney, who is
in fifth place for the women’s all-
around title.
The rodeo club is open to all ttios
interested in rodeo and in helpingt(
promote the sport of rodeo. Tea
members are chosen by their per
formance abilities.

John Anderson, a junior agricul
tural economics major, holds first
place in the Southern region with a
total of 124.5 points. Jim Standley is
in second place and Johnny Powell
in third.
Anderson, Standley and Powell
are all past contestants at the Na
tional Intercollegiate Finals Rodeo.
Anderson is presently in ninth place
in the national standings.
Other men contributing to the
over-all points are: Jim Price, third
in saddle bronc riding; George
Ward, fourth in bull riding; and
Cody Dutton and Mark Ivy, second
and fourth, respectively, in calf rop
ing.
Mark Ivy is currently in fifth posi
tion for the men’s all-around title.
