Operation Crossroads Africa, which resembles he Peace Corps, chooses 15 Ameri- :an students to work in Africa each students were financed last year. Stark said. The travel loan program origi nated in 1962. James Ray, an A&M student, could not afford to partici pate in the Operation Crossroads America program. A former stu dent, John Lindsey, financed his trip. When Ray paid Lindsey back after joining the Air Force, he also presented $100 to A&M to start the fund, Stark said. The travel loan program is funded by gifts from A&M graduates who have used the loan program. It is also funded by alumni contributions and profits from “We’ve Never Been Licked,” a movie filmed at A&M during World War II. Losses to the fund are small. Even though there are no legal way to force graduates to pay the fond back, Stark said, only six people have not done so. Embrey’s Jewelry We Specialize In Aggie Rings.
