In all that mass confusion Aggie basketball team defeated lOUrS 16 Huskies 77-50. “It was like playing in a pick-up ame,” Aggie forward Wally Swan- on said. “It was really hard to get ourself motivated.” Guard Dave Goff added, “I felt Jke I was playing back in all-city 7 >ague. It is really hard to get going dthout a clock.” The Aggies, due to the number of nils being called and the number of oor shots that they were taking, mn M jund themselves holding a slim 'PPwtiG 2.27 halftime lead. “Our shot selection was poor in he first half,” coach Shelby Metcalf said. ‘‘It was our defense that kept us in the ball game. The first 10 minutes of the second half we played really well.” In that span of time, the Aggies took a 14-point lead over the Hus kies. Swanson and freshman Rynn Wright were the primary reasons A&M was able to build the big lead. ‘‘I was glad that we finally got to see Wright,” Metcalf said. “He showed us that he could play some good basketball. He reported to camp overweight and he is just now losing it. He played a good ball game.” Wright had his own analysis of his performance. “I played a pretty good game,” Wright said. “I think our team fi nally got it together there in the second half. I will be able to con tribute more when I get into better shape.” Metcalf had everybody contribut ing last Saturday night. Only in jured guard Karl Godine didn’t get to play. “We got a good look at everybody tonight,” Metcalf said. “Their coach slowed things down a little by sub stituting every chance he got. He did it so the tempo of the game would be in their favor. In the sec ond half we got things back in our favor by using our blitz. They were a well disciplined team in the first half.” A&M, led by Jarvis Williams’ 13 points, had five men finish in double figures. Vernon Smith led all re bounders with seven. “Everybody tried to get 30 points while they were out there,” Goff said. “That is why we had five guys wind up in double figures.” A&M’s next game is this Tuesday night at 7:30 against Sam Houston State. It will be the last home game before the Christmas holidays. I was surprized at our of fense. We re so young and so erra tic. We only have three seniors and we played five freshmen today.” Bender said that the Aggie Ladies were not out of the game from the start. “We had no offensive pattern,” the Aggie coach said. “The girls never executed the plays properly. If we could have adjusted our of fense, we could have won.” But at halftime, down by a score of 42-16, Bender said winning had become secondary. “I told the the girls to forget about trying to win, Bender said. “I told them to go out there and be pleased with their performance in the sec ond half. “No, I wasn’t pleased with their performance and I don’t think they were either.” The Aggie Ladies get the oppor tunity to improve their performance against Sam Houston State Tuesday night in G. Rollie White Coliseum. Coach Gunter said that neither team had a perfect game and that there was a reason for it. “It’s still early in the season,” Gunter said. “Both teams were sloppy but both will get better. A&M has improved a lot since last year.” Pat Werner was the high scorer for the Aggie Ladies with 17 points. High scorer for SFA, D.K. Thomas, also had 17 points. WANTED!
