Throughout my early years I regularly attended church and had many friends and relatives with whom to share and enjoy life. Even though I was active in a num ber of church activities I still felt empty and dissatisfied. During my freshman year in high school I met some young people who’s lives impressed me very much. My curiousity caused me to ask one of them what the difference was. He answered — Jesus Christ. Be ing impressed with their lives, this answer caused me to real ize that there was a tremen dous difference between my knowing about Jesus and the actual experience of having my sins forgiven and Him living in my heart. Not long afterwards I asked the Lord in a simple prayer to forgive me of my sins and to take control of my life. Sure enough the Lord Jesus is faithful and He began to work in me, but everything did not happen overnight. , When I started college I knew exactly where I was headed and what degree I wanted. I was preparing to go back and work with my Dad in his busi ness. It seemed very promising as well as the normal thing to do yet within me I felt as if my whole living and priorities were out of order. The problem was that I still wouldn’t let God have a voice in determining my future, especially when it came to the matter of my job securi ty and a comfortable living. Certainly I was a real Christian, but as an accounting and fi nance major it is not an easy task to give control of this mat ter to the Lord, especially when you think you have it figured out anyway. The other day a friend and I were talking and she comment ed, “don’t people think M.B.A. students are just out for money and a good job?” ‘That’s pro bably the truth” I said because two years ago that was exactly my purpose for going to school, but now I can truthful ly say that something is more important than material things. For over a period of time Jesus has poured more and more of His bountiful life into mine and there is no other compar ison. Sometimes when I look back and see how my life has been 1 am really thankful that 1 have not been cheated by thinking any job or any nice house could satisfy my longing for a meaningful life. For the first time I have the confidence to trust in God’s purpose and seek His will according to the pure word of the Bible. Christ said that He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. I have found these to be the truest words ever spoken. The abundant life for me is not an accounting or a finance degree, or obtainingJ Masters of Business degree. Neither is it what these degrees can acheive for me in an out ward way. The abundant life is knowing the Christ who lives in my heart and experiencing the enjoyment of Him in a real way every day of my life.
