Members of the Board of Regents, university admin istrators and academic officials are expected at the Division of Student Services event. Student leaders will be hosted at the Association of former Students Winter Council barbecue on Friday. Recognizing the leaders is a symbol of recognizing all the stu dents who participate, said Sandy Boothe, graduate assistant in stu dent activities. The Division of Stu dent Affairs was responsible for de veloping this weekend’s theme. “We plan to emphasize student activities and extracurricular ac tivities without messing up the morning,” Dr. Carolyn Adair said, laughing. She is director of student activities. Student-made crafts in the MSC Gallery and displays in MSC exhibi tion cases also spotlight student leaders and activities, Adair said. “The administration has always felt that a large number of people come on campus on football game days, and this provides a good op portunity to tell people about the campus, said Della Pearson, who has been planning weekend themes since 1975. Pearson is assistant director of the Educational Information Service. “In early spring, March, we start thinking about what we might do next fall. By the first of April we have pretty well zeroed in on what we want to emphasize, she said. The university president suggests and helps decide on themes, Pear son added. The football program covers, which Pearson coordinates with the theme, were photographed the last week of spring training. “We use real live players in our shots,” she said. The stories and pic tures for the program must be pre pared by Aug. 1. “We can use other special pro grams, if we know in time, ” Pearson said. “We try to hold any building ceremonies for football weekends. It adds festivity to the occasion. It’s a very special day for these men and ties in very nicely with the football weekends.” Facilities housing educational television and the university’s pub lic television and radio stations will be named in Studio A at 9 a. m. Naming ceremonies for the Joe Hiram Moore Communications Center and Michel T. Halbouty Geosciences Building are set before the 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
