A new method of matching
people with jobs has been inititated
by the Bryan-College Station Texas
Employment Commision, Manager
Charles Gillespie announced Tues
day.
The new method, titled Job Bank,
is designed to give applicants a
wider than ever choice of jobs.
Job seekers are given books that
contain all job openings listed with
the employment commission.
The books are catergorized into
various job areas and show the ap
plicant the pay, hours and skill in
volved in each job.
After the applicant chooses a job,
he is interviewed by a TEC em
ployee and if he meets the job re
quirements, he is referred to the
employer. Employer names and lo
cations are not identified on the job
sheets.
Job books are updated daily and
the number of job openings listed
varies from 100 to 200 on any given
day, Gillespie said.
Previously, applicants told TEC
interviewers what type of work they
were interested in. The job selec
tion was then made by the TEC per
sonnel.
“The new Job Bank should be
very effective here,” Gillespie said.
“The new method will be more effi
cient than previous methods be
cause job seekers can see all the jobs
available and then choose the one
best suiting his skills and training.
Although the job locator can give
applicants a wide variety of jobs to
choose from, they must still meet
education and skill requirements.
“This is not a wholesale referral,”
Gillespie said.
The new method will not be a cost
saving device, but the applicants
would increase and Job Bank could
service the area better.

The majority of jobs listed by
TEC are for semi-skilled work. TEC
services seven counties and about
one fourth of the patrons come from
surrounding counties so it lists jobs
in these areas.
