Four Texas A&M University stu
dents received W. Vernon Wright
Petroleum Asphalt Scholarships
Thursday.
Kathy Kelly of Houston, Ray
Kreitz of Needville, Kim Osborn of
Fort Worth, and John Tenison of
Dallas were presented $500 awards.
Civil engineering Professor Boh
M. Gallaway announced the awards
and noted that 43 Aggies have
shared in the scholarships since
their inception in 1969.
The objective of the scholarship
program is to recognize, encourage,
and assist students to select some
phase of petroleum asphalt as a
major area of their academic inter
est, with the expectation that this
encouragement may lead them to
plan a career in a field of business,
construction, research, engineer
ing, or public service that involves
the use of petroleum asphalt.
Vernon and Mary Frances Wright
established the scholarship as a re
volving fund.
Criteria for the selection of recip
ients are a satisfactory academic
record and such attributes of charac
ter and seriousness of purpose that
they will become outstanding citi
zens and graduates of Texas A&M.
