The Texas Aggie football team
must toy with the Virginia Tech
Gobblers and start a grueling five
week road trip tomorrow, as college
football moves into its third week of
action.
The Aggies, winners over the
University of Kansas last week and
currently ranked seventh in the na
tion, face a team which has steadily
improved since Coach Jimmy
Sharpe took command of the squad
three years ago. Following a dismal
4-7 campaign in his rookie attempt
in 1974, Sharpe has rallied the
Gobblers to back-to-back winning
seasons. That’s the first time a Tech
unit has accomplished that feat since
1968. VPI went 8-3 in ’75 and 6-5
last year. Saturday’s contest will be
the first for the Virginians in 1977.
A team which fields 38 returning
lettermen from last season, the
Gobblers are sound on both offense
and defense.
