Assertiveness Training involves
being able to express one s needs
and learning how to handle negative
as well as positive feedback. “It’s
focusing on learning how to stand up
for one’s rights in a positive way,
without getting angry, O’Rear said.

The Career Planning Workshop is
a general orientation geared to
freshman and sophomore students
who are having trouble deciding on
a career choice.
"It runs on the assumption that a
lot of students find the whole idea of
a decision about what they plan to
do as confusing.
“We want to get across the idea
that it’s not an automatic decision
and also to help them to rate them
selves on various factors that make
career decisions easier for some
people. ”
Married persons may attend the
Marital Enrichment Seminar and
the Couples group.
Betty Scott, director of these
groups, said the Marital Enrich
ment Seminar is based on the prem
ise that a good marriage can be
made better by concentrating on
certain principles of communica
tion.

“It s not focusing on solving seri
ous problems, but more how to
provide tools to handle problems
that may come up. It’s sort of a pre
ventive approach.
“The Couples group is more of a
discussion framework where certain
topics will be addressed, but it’s up
to the couples to address them
rather than the leaders of the
group.”
For women over 25 returning to
school, there is the Life Planning
workshop, conducted by Dr.
Theresa DiNuzzo.
“I want to help women who want
to change their direction or add to
their lives by coining back to
school, DiNuzzo said.
"Life P/anning is based on the be
lief that these women have special
concerns and can benefit from a
support group.
