DALLAS — 'Nursing home resi
dents in North Texas have testified
they experienced fraud, neglect, in
timidation and filth.
“I can’t tell you the terror and
sorrow I felt when my husband was
in Fair Haven No. 2 from June to
August last year,” Maxine Ziegler
told the Attorney General’s Task
Force on Nursing Homes.
She was one of 200 persons who
gathered Monday in the Dallas city
council chamber for the first public
hearing in the state conducted by
the panel.
“The food was so terrible he lost
28 pounds in three months,” Mrs.
Ziegler said. “He had bedsores on
his ankle, and one time 1 walked
into his room to find him tied to a
chair, nude. He was paralyzed and
couldn’t talk and they just left him
sitting there. ”
Mrs. Joseph Gideon told about
conditions when her mother was a
resident of Pavillion No. 2 in
McKinney, Tex. The home is
owned by National Living Centers,
Inc., of Houston.
