they’re eligible for the coming bas
ketball season.
The Aggie program they partici
pated in was placed on a one-year
probation by the NCAA, yet remains
eligible for future SWC cham
pionships and post-season play.

mittee named I.S. Feinstein, Wes
ley Boyd and George Gilliam as the
men who aided in the recruitment of
Godine and Williams.
Feinstein refused comment, but
Gilliam had strong remarks about
the ruling.
“I denied the charges a year ago,
and I deny them today,” tbe owner
of a Houston furniture store said.
“The whole thing was politically
motivated to start with.”
Gilliam was reportedly accused of
paying Godine and Williams large
sums of money when they worked at
his store. Boyd, a junior high school
coach in Houston, supposedly hand
led the recruiting of the Houston
Kashmere stars.
Coach Shelby Metcalf defended
the three Houstonians. He felt that
the cases against the men had long
been disproven.
“I swore to secrecy about the case
and can’t comment upon it,” the

The disturbing note about the
whole ordeal is that the NCAA has
yet to act upon the most important
faction. . . Godine’s and Williams’
eligibility. In the melee of decisions
the two men have been forgotten.
This is the sad chapter of the con
fusing book. The NCAA, and
coaches and fans of Aggieland, are
more interested in the fate of a sport,
than they are in the fate of two men.
No one seems interested that
these men have experienced an
agonizing year of worry and doubt;
only the fact of how severe a penalty
the gods of the NCAA would bestow
upon us.
The rights of two men have been
violated, but all anyone cares about
is whether or not the Ags will play in
the Summit next March.
Godine and Williams have been
denied their right to a speedy trial by
an outdated NCAA committee. The
men were accused of accepting il
legal monetary gifts, and were finally
allowed to present their defense of
these accusations a year later.
Meanwhile, the Kashmere duo
lost a year of eligibility in college
basketball, and lived a year in won
