The Tennessee Volunteers fea
ture one of the nation’s top sprinters
in Reggie Jones. Jones ran a 10.0 in
the 100-meter dash at Dallas last
year and also anchored the Vols’
winning 400-meter relay team,
timed at 40.0.
The Texas Longhorns also have a
Jones who is fleet of foot — Johnny
“Lam” Jones, who ran in the
Montreal Olympics. Jones has run A
9.21 in the 100-yard dash and a 46.9
in the 440-yard dash, both times
currently tops in the SWC. He will
probably run the 100 and anchor
both of Texas’ relay teams.
The mile relay may provide the
opportunity to see the race many
fans have hoped for this year — a
440-yard duel between Johnny
Jones and Mark Collins of Baylor.
Collins is the defending SWC
champ in the 440, but is now con
centrating mainly on the 880-yard
run. He ran 45.9 quarter last spring
and has done a 47.2 this season.
Both athletes anchor their respec
tive mile relay teams, thus the pair
will be going head-to-head for the
first time this year.
Another key match-up will be
A&M’s Shifton Baker, Texas’ David
Nelson and Kansas’ Nolan Crom
well in the 400-meter hurdles.
Baker, who competed in the Olym
pic trials last summer, owns the best
SWC mark in the event thus far,
51.56 and has a career best of 50.8
seconds.
Nelson won this event in last
year’s meet and is the defending
SWC champ, also having a best
time of 50.8. Cromwell, the
Jayhawk quarterback when he dons
pads, is one of the nation’s best in
termediate hurdlers however, he
finished second to Nelson at Dallas
last year.
The Aggies, having won their last
two meets by scoring a bevy of
points in the field events, should
fare the best of the conference
schools competing. Pole vaulter
Brad Blair, having cleared 16-8 this
spring, should be one of the favorit
es.
Baker, making his senior season
his best yet, will also run the 110-
meter high hurdles. His main com
petition will come from Davy Dun
can of Baylor, whose best time of
13.4 compares to Baker’s best of
13.7.
Sprinter Ray Brooks, who ran a
21.2 in the 220-yard dash last week,
will be one of the top competitors in
that event. Brooks, who has never
run the 440 at A&M, may do so to
morrow in the mile relay. He ran a
48.5 in practice two weeks ago and
was slated to run a mile relay leg in
the College Station Relays, but
didn’t get the chance as A&M com
piled a comfortable lead and failed
to enter a foursome.
The prelims for the running
events and the field event finals will
start at 9 a.m. tomorrow with the
track event finals starting at 2:45
p.m.

HOW TO GET A LIFETIME SUPPLY
OF LOVE STAR LONG NECKS FOR 84«.
It’s a pain to come up with
that 840 deposit on your first
case of Lone Star Long Necks.
But you’re home free on
every other case you buy.
You know what this
means? A never-ending
supply of the legendary
Long Neck bottles.
Forever. Perpetually
For timely Bvljv «v eternal.
You can pass
them on in your
will just like your other
worldly possessions.
You can consider them a
hedge against inflation. (In
stead of putting your money
into gold or silver, you
shrewdly fel A ^«eot into
glass
ware.)
You can return them if
you want to rub your nickels
together again.
But you’ll probably want to
bring them back to the place
you bought them. This way
you can end up with
something even more
valuable than a case of
Long Necks.
A case of Long Necks full
of Lone Star Beer.

Teachings
of
Jose Cuervo
(asexcerpted from Chapter 27of The Book.)
Yes, Chapter 27, wherein it says that Jose Cuervo is not only the
original, since 1795, supreme, premium, ultimate white tequila. But,
goes on to say that Jose Cuervo, as the ultimate, is also the ultimate
