The Texas Municipal Power
Agency (TMPA) announced today
that it has obtained the lignite rights
to approximately 11,000 acres of
land in Grimes County from a firm
known as Texas Lignite, Ltd.

HOUSTON — The company
furnishing clean linen every week to,
70 fire stations has suspended serv
ice because the city is six months
behind in paying its bill.
The city owes $7,000 for October
and November.
“If they can’t pay the bill, we
have to do something about it,” said
John Vanover, general manager of
the National Linen Service.
Capt. C.W. Smith, fire depart
ment personnel officer, said the city
is late in making payments because
of a change in bookkeeping proce
dures.

acres of mining rights obtained in
the deal assures TMPA of adequate
fuel supplies.
“The lignite covered by the Texas
Lignite leases, together with the
large reserves of lignite previously
obtained in Grimes County by the
TMPA, should provide the Gibbons
Creek Steam Electric Station with
enough fuel for the 30-year life of
the facility.
“Needless to say we are elated
with the agreement,” he added,
“because it realistically assures us of
adequate fuel supplies.”
The Gibbons Creek Steam Elec
tric Station is due to go into opera
tion in January, 1981.
