Dr. Manuel Davenport, philoso phy professor, mailed a pair of sneakers this week to join the com pany of Pat Boone, King Hussein, Golda Meir, Ann Landers, Jonas Salk, Ronald Reagan, Roger Bannis ter, Leonard Bernstein, Art Buchwald, Lowell Thomas and Richard Nixon. Charles Davenport, teacher at Buena Vista High School at Ker man, Calif., stumbled on the idea as a learning and achievement stimulus for his students. Displayed under the theme of “In Whose Shoes Would You Walk Tomor row?” the project also has students prepare papers on the achievements of people who have contributed footwear. A&M’s Davenport was asked to donate a pair of shoes because California’s Davenport is extending the display to include a family show tree. The Californian wrote to more than a dozen Davenports listed in “Who’s Who in America.” Dr. Davenport was one of those listed. The West Coast surnamesake of the A&M professor says his em phasis on the family shoe tree was to show his students they need not be born famous to become famous. sneakers to Califor Carla Dee Beauty Salon OFFERING 10% DISCOUNT WITH I.D.
