The Rogers book is the first in the Joe and Betty Moore Texas Art Series, while the Copp publication launches the Texas A&M University Economics Series. The Frantz book leads the series of Essays on the American West sponsored by the Elma Dill Russell Spencer Founda tion. Krueger’s book is the fourth in the Centennial Series of Texas A&M’s Association of Former Stu dents. Bryan High takes honors Bryan High School won a first place, a third place and two honora ble mention awards Friday at the high school journalism workshop at Texas A&M University. Bryan’s yearbook staff won first place for its cover and honorable mention for division page layout. Student Pat Synalschik captured third-best news feature in news paper competition and Bill Gerber gained honorable mention in the same category. More than 600 students and ad visers attending the nation’s largest journalism workshop saw Conroe, Houston Memorial High, North brook, Spring Branch and Stratford walk away with the lion’s share of individual and school awards. Each won six to ten awards. The council is also expected to au thorize the mayor to sign a contract for the city’s share of construction costs for improving Wellborn Road from University Drive to the north city limits. A closed session to discuss per sonnel contracts is also on the agenda. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at city hall, 1101 Texas Ave. C. S. Noon Lions Club will conduct driving course The National Safety Council de fensive driving course will be con ducted by the College Station Noon Lions Club on Friday July 23 and Saturday July 24. The eight-hour course will run from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Each driver who com pletes this course will be eligible to get 10 per cent off on their insur ance over a three year period. Tuition for the two-day course is $8.00.
