CICAR stands for “Cooperative Investigation of Caribbean and Ad jacent Regions.” The theme of this symposium is “Progress in Marine Research.” “The 1968 meeting of this organi zation established the scientific framework for the 1970-75 investiga tions,” Morrison said. “This one in Caracas will be used to present the results of the cooperative interna tional marine science investigation. ” Morrison is the senior author of “A Fall Portraiture of the Eastern Caribbean Sea. ” Durring the late fall of 1973, casts were made of the en tire water column in the Grenada Trough and the Venezuelan and Co lumbian Basins. The characteristics, dynamics and distrubutions of the layers of the column are presented in his paper to describe the circulation and property distributions at the time. Elliott is the senior author of “Energetics of Gulf of Mexico An- ticyclonic Rings.” The paper de scribes a recurrent feature of the cir culation in the Eastern Gulf where the current rings are spawned by the Loop current system. Elliott fol lowed the life cycle of four of these rings spanning the years 1965-72.
