Walker
By PAUL McGRATH
Battalion Sports Editor
Former Texas A&M halfback Skip
Walker added a touchdown to the
West cause as they whipped the
East 35-17 in the 16th annual
American Football Coaches All-
American game. Walker scored on a
three yard burst early in the first
quarter, tying the game at that point
at 7-7. The West outscored their
Eastern counterparts 21-3 in the
second half to run away with the
contest. Walker, surpisingly playing
much of the game, was not spec
tacular however, as both teams had
problems forming rushing attacks.

The AFCA all star game may have
to find a new home next year as the
city of Lubbock voted to discon
tinue as hosts for the game. Lub
bock city fathers determined that
the game, held in the West Texas
city for the past seven years, was
more of a liability than an asset.
No firm decision as to the location
of the 1977 game has been made
thus far.

Texas A&M hurdler Shilton
Baker performed well, but not well
enough, at the United States Olym
pic trials held last weekend in
Eugene, Ore.
Baker, who will be a senior this
fall, placed fifth in his quarterfinals
heat with a 50.76 clocking, his sec
ond best time of the year. Unfortu
nately, only the first four finishers
were allowed to go on to the semis.

Mike Bruton, a former A&M

both Gene Stallings and Emory Bel-

of a newspaper in Huntsville. Bru
ton, a journalism major and former
sports editor of The Battalion, has
also worked as a writer in Tyler and
on the Bryan Eagle.
Charlie McClendon, Head Coach
at Louisiana State University, says
he has Texas A&M right where he
wants them, “off the schedule.
The Aggies have defeated Cholly
Mac’s Tigers the past two years,
21-14 and 39-8.
