Nearly all poachers have their ears up” when hunting illegally. A rger number of deer are being kil- ereneelj d ibis year by poachers working sexpetijj jgether using CBs. A favorite tactic used by outlaw inters is to have one poacher sta in himself where he has a good of approaching cars. He will tayincontaet with his “good buddy” liowill be actively hunting. If he ■es a game warden, he will warn his iend and the outlaw hunter will avetime to hide all evidence before game warden arrives on the started baying. The poachers got ex cited and started talking to each other and maneuvering so they could be in the right place when the dogs chased the deer onto the road. Game wardens were listening to the poachers. Landowners with base stations got on the air and started helping the wardens to locate the poachers. Airwaves were jammed, dogs were running, pickups and patrol cars raced around back roads. The deer got away. For lack of evidence, no case could be filed against poachers. Time to renew license? The use of CBs by poachers cached a climax recently when a oupofsome 20 men were running cerwith dogs in the timberlands of n iast Texas. The poachers were staked out on oads and fire lanes listening for the ;s and watching for game war- The dogs got on the scent and Has your fishing license expired? If it has, you may be among more than 100,000 Texans who have pos sibly forgotten to renew their state fishing licenses this spring. It became apparent at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that something was amiss when the sales of fishing licenses this year con tinued to run far behind the number sold through this time last year. By the end of April, there was a de crease of 110,012 from April, 1975. For the department, this has re sulted in a revenue decrease of $437,822.45 from the fishing license fees collected through April last year. A Texas sport fishing license costs $4.25 for both resident and non resident arud is required of all per sons except those under 17 years of age or over 65 and other fishing in the county of their residence with trotline, throwline or pole and line. It is valid for one year from date of purchase. All other Texas hunting and fish ing licenses are valid from Sep tember 1 through August 31 of the fiscal year in which purchased. Garrison reminded those Texans who also intend to hunt this fall and winter to consider the state’s combi nation hunting and fishing license at $8.75, a savings of 75 cents below the cost of purchasing both licenses separately — and an automatic re minder to renew it by Sept. 1 each year.
