Emory Bellard, Texas A&M ath
letic director and head football
coach, asked Mike Mistovich, who
led the invocation at last night s
A&M Club banquet honoring Bel
lard, to also say a prayer for all the
Aggie football players who are taking
their finals this week.
Bellard’s request came during a
question and answer period in which
an Aggie fan queried if the football
team would have any losses due to
grades. Bellard smiled and added
that Mistovich might also say a
prayer for any professor who did not
pass one of the players.
Bellard gave a synopsis of this
year’s recruiting, returning person
nel and the team’s spring training
activities. He said that this is possi
bly the best year of recruiting for
A&M since he has been head coach.
There will be television coverage
of probably two or possibly three
games this coming year, Bellard
said, but that these are not definite at
present. Bellard added that there
will be no schedule changes this
year, such as the Arkansas game last
year, in order to have an Aggie game
televised.
“We’re playing ’em one, two,
three...,’’ Bellard said.
“We will be running tke
Wishbone,” he said, and the Aggie
will attempt to throw the ball more
“Hopefully, successfully,” Bellard
added.

Football was the main topic of dis
cuss ion for the evening, but one per
son attending the dinner asked Bel nte
lard about women’s sports at AM.
The head coach said that there is at Hd S
eight sport program for women at
A&M presently. Bellard said
the women’s program is progressing Jort
slowly and that fimding was a prob
lem . Bellard pointed out that money
for the athletic department is ob
tained primarily from football ac- idd
tivities.
