Senator John Tower, Con gressman Robert Krueger, Speaker of the Texas House of Representa tives Bill Clayton, Attorney General John Hill and State Comptroller Bob Bullock are all scheduled to partici pate in the two-day meeting head quartered at the Ramada Inn. Sharing the spotlight will be a panel representing higher educa tion, including Dr. Philip Hoffman, president of the University of Hous ton; Dr. Abner McCall, president, Baylor University; Dr. Joe Rushing, chancellor, Tarrant County Junior College District; Dr. Kenneth Ashworth, commissioner. Coor dinating Board, Texas College and University System, and Dr. Jack K. Williams, president, Texas A&M. The APME convention, expected to attract about 75 editors and As sociated Press representatives, is jointly hosted by The Eagle and Texas A&M’s University News Ser vice. Activities get under way Thursday evening with a reception hosted by The Eagle and featuring a perfor mance by Texas A&M’s Singing Cadets. Dr. Williams will formally wel come the newsmen at 8:30 a.m. Fri day and then moderate a panel dis cussion on problems facing higher education. Congressman Krueger, fron New Braunfels, will speak on “Deregula tion of Gas and Oil Prices” at a noon luncheon, with Clayton, Hill and Bullock joining in a 2 p.m. panel dis cussion entitled “How to Make Gov ernment More Responsive to the People.” Senator Tower will speak at the convention’s closing luncheon at Krueger-Dunn Hall, where the newsmen will be treated to a “meal of the future” composed of a variety of foods derived from glandless cot tonseed and other oilseed products. The meal will be prepared by Texas A&M’s Food Protein Research and Development Center in cooperation with Food Service personnel at Krueger-Dunn.
