Heir to one of the most famous names in human paleontofogy andan internationally acclaimed scientist in his own right. I.eakey is administra tive director of Kenya's National Museums. He is the son of fumed British an thropologist Dr. Mary Leakey and the late Dr. Louis la-akey. Among his other works, the late I>r. Leakey is credited with discovering the 2 million-year-old Hotnohahilis. Mary Leakey last year announced the re covery of the oldest reliably elated remains of man ever found — bet ween 3.35 and 3.75 million years of age. Richard swife, Meave. also plays a major role in the family saga, reas sembling skull fragments and measuring the skull size ami cranial capacity. In 1972, Ix-akey announced the discovery of the controversial Skull 1470, dated at 2.8 million years old and suggesting man's direct ances tors existed a million years earlier than believed. His work has appeared in many scientific journals including National Geographic. Following his Monday visit, a film entitled "Dr. Leakey and the Dawn of Man, further examining family contributions, will be shown on the following schedule: March 30 at 9:30 and 11 a.in. in room 200 Harrington and 2 p.m. in room 209 Bolton: and March 31 at 11 a.in. and noon in 209 Harrington and 2 p.m. in 100 Har rington. Tlie assembly offers on Thursday, April 1 a 2 p.m. discussion of prob lems and issue's of fossil man with Texas A&M physical anthropologist Dr. O. J. Oven, former associate of Leakey s in Kenya. Addresses to highlight math sessions The Centennial Assembly of the Texas Section of the Mat he nautical Association of America will meet at Texas Aix M ApriL2-3. There will lie sessions for contri buted papers in mathematical re search, pedagogy and expository papers. Two sessions will he held in mathematical pattern recognition and approximation theory. Also, three invited addresses will he gi ven. Prof. Paul Erdos of the Hungarian Academy of Science will speak Fri day at 11 a.m. in room 701 of Ktidder Tower. He is the Centennial Profes sor of Mathematics at Texas A&M. The subject of the discussion will he Combinatorial Problems in Elementary Geometry." Prof. Paul Ha!mos of Indiana Uni versity will speak on "Bounded Mat rices" Friday at 4:30 p m also in room 701 of Rudder Tower. He has been a fellow *>f the Insti tute for Advanced Study and is noted primarily for his work in functional analysis. Dr. Halmos has made major contributions and written inf luential texts in logic, linear algebra and measure theory. Prof. H. L. Alder of the University of California at Davis, the president-elect of the MAA, will represent the National Executive Committee at the meeting. He will address the group Satur day at 10:30 a.m., also in room 701 ol Rudder. In addition to the special addres ses, sessions for contributed paper will be held throughout the meeting Prof. James R.
