The only cars registered in Godine’s and Williams’ names are being paid for by the athletes them selves or by their families. The alleged freebies are repor tedly registered under the name of a Houston junior high coach named Wesley Boyd. Boyd said he does own two cars and that he does know Godine and Williams. The cars are his, says Boyd and are used by him for personal and business matters. As for Tardan’s information being the source for the conference inves tigation, SWC spokesman Bill Morgan said he had never heard of Tardan until Monday morning. The ruling concerning Godine and Williams was made Sunday after noon following lie detector tests made on Friday. Sound strange? Listen to this. It is common knowledge that the last two schools that had a chance to obtain the services of the Kashmere stars were A&M and Houston. The Cougars lost of course. Tardan, besides working for HNS, is the public address announcer for the Cougar home games. Figure that one out. Jarvis Williams, one of two Aggie basketball players recently ruled in eligible by the Southwest Confer ence, said Tuesday night that he was “satisfied Tm innocent of any charges,” and that a SWC coach told him that if he went to A&M the coach would “turn him in.” Williams said that University of Texas coach Leon Black along with assistant Skip Adams both had said months ago that, “If I (Williams) went to A&M, they would turn me in. “So I wasn’t surprised that we (he and Godine) were investigated,” Williams said. Shorts Besides being captain of Army’s swimming team, Sam Fogarty of Or lando, Fla., is the only senior on the cadet squad. A total of 24 jumping events will be held at tbe Delaware Park thoroughbred meeting running May 29 through July 17. Yale hasn’t had a winning basket ball team since 1968. Texas A&M coach Shelby Metcalf said in regards to Williams’ state ment that, “I’d say Jarvis is a pretty smart man.” The allegations against Williams and Godine include “new cars”, cash payoffs, washers and dryers for their mothers and excessive salaries dur ing summer jobs. The two have taken polygraph tests administered by the SWC. Al though not forced to take the tests, Williams said, “They made out it seemed to me, that if we didn’t, it would be tough on us, you know. Like we would be ineligible anyway. That was the idea I got. “I told the truth, man, because if you don’t, that machine’s gonna to show it. I told the truth both times (two tests were given on different occasions). I’ve got nothing to hide.” A scientific approach to diamonds. An artistic approach to fine jewelry. Carl Bussells "iahond Room TOWN & COUNTRY CENTER 846-4708 3731 E. 29th MEMBER AMERICAN GEM SOCIETY ( ) A few of the Aggie players, Davis in particular, say that jealousy by ri vals is the actual force behind the By the way, A&M assistant coach Norman Reuther told Tardan after last night’s game that he (Tardan) had better find a lawyer in the near fu ture. While the exact reason or reasons for the SWC riding are yet to surface, it is also puzzling as to the timing of the announcement. Also, why the incorrigible “gag rule” which allows no enlightenment about the case? The “gag rule” prohibits universities from releasing information without affirmation by the conference. Maybe someone ought to interview an A&M basketball shoe. It would probably have a looser tongue than SWC and A&M officials. The conference has also violated the rights of both Godine and Williams by declaring them guilty before holding a hearing and by not informing them of the charges against them. As reads a well quoted movie line, “What we have here is a failure to communicate. ” Brother, if that guy knew the half of it. “SAVE A BUNDLE” Remember the old, Cash and Carry, money saving trick?
