Ball runs in their blood
By CAROLYN BLOSSER
Battalion Sports Writer
From 1948 to 1950, Bruce H.
Morisse played baseball for Texas
A&M. Today, 26 years later, one of
his offspring is carrying on the fami
ly’s athletic tradition. Like father,
like son, right?
Well, not quite. Last semester,
Morisse’s daughter received a scho
larship to play basketball for A&M’s
women’s team. Together, they prob
ably make up the first and only
father-daughter team to have athle
tic scholarships at Texas A&M.
Sally Morisse is one of many
women who benefit from a rapidly
growing women’s athletic program,
spearheaded by Kay Don, Women’s
Athletic Director.
“In the three years I’ve been
here, says Morisse, “Miss Don has
really brought the women’s program
up. She has just done a fantastic job.

All of the players have a lot of faith in
her — she’s really a fine person.”
Morisse, a 20-year-old junior from
Angleton, started her basketball
career in junior high. During her
four years at Angleton High, she par
ticipated in both track and basket
ball. Her senior year saw the 1973
AAA State Championship fall Angle-
ton’s way.
With such a heralded background,
it would seem only natural to con
tinue the pace in college. But Moris
se’s decision was to discontinue
sports during her freshman year.
“I decided not to play that first
year because I was tired of it in a
way, said Morisse. “I wanted to re
ally concentrate on making good
grades. ”
But the inevitable happened and
she began missing the competition.
To compensate, she started playing
in intramurals only to discover that
she still wasn’t quite satisified.
“I didn’t like playing in intramur
als,’’ she said. “It was a terrible drop
down for me because I was used to
playing with all-state people.”
That following summer, after dis
cussion with her high school coach,
Morisse decided to try out for the
women’s basketball team.
“I was a little scared about playing
college hall, she said. “I
played much defense in hi lThere
