of priorities Sign With Aggi0S
The order of priorities for city
street improvements was reaffirmed
at a public hearing last night before
the College Station Planning and
Zoning Commission.
Sterling Street will be the first re
novated under the six-year Commu
nity Development Act. Al Mayo, city
planner, said the Sterling improve
ments should be completed in two
months.
If enough of this year’s $70,000
allocation remains after the Sterling
project, improvements on Park
Place will also be started this year,
Mayo said.
The Planning and Zoning Com
mission also recommended approv
ing the preliminary plats for Quail
Run Estates and Parkway Plaza addi
tion. The city council gives final ap
proval to all commission action.
Rezoning was also recommended
for a 2.51-acre tract in the Crawford
Burnett League. The recommenda
tion is to rezone the tract from an
agricultural open district to a com
mercial industrial district.

Texas A&M sacked six blue chip

Also joining Texas A&M Coach
Emory Bellard were blue chip run

and blue chip lineman Thomas Gre

Branch Westchester who just missed
the blue chip list, also signed with

Baylor netted a blue chip quarter
back right out of the starting gate —
highly sought Sammy Bickham of
Plano. Coach Grant Teaff also
reached into Jackson, Miss., for
quarterback Greg Wood, III. Texas
jumped into the fray with some im
pressive football talent of its own.
The Longhorns signed linebacker
Lance Taylor of El Paso Coronado, a
blue chipper, and blue chip running
backs Johnny Jones of Lampasas and
Johnny Johnson of La Grange.
The signing of Dickey and
Brothers was a double coupe for the
Aggies.
And the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Ha
gerty gives the Aggies some muscle
to run behind.
“It’s probably the best crop we’ve
had in Emory’s four years at A&M,”
said one Aggie assistant coach.
Bellard said after signing Dickey,
“I’ll probably never be a millionaire
but I know how one feels.
Other blue chips signed by A&M
included lineman Gerald Galloway
of Andrews and linebacker Frank
Lemons of Pampa.
Texas Tech signed two Oklahoma
stars off state power Altus, 250-
pound lineman Joe Walstad and
running back Raymond Prince.
