SPECIAL NOTICE
Picture this. You’re sitting in your
living room relaxing after a good
meal. Soft music is playing, and it’s
almost time for your favorite TV
show. Suddenly, the lights go dim,
your television set becomes a stage,
and instead of watching a lifeless
tube, you find yourself viewing a
real live play.

That is the feeling one gets while
attending the MSC Dinner
Theatre. The combined efforts of
the Aggie Players, the MSC Direc
torate and A&M Food Services,
have brought a new and pleasant
form of entertainment to the cam
pus and the community.
For the price of a few drinks at
any local bar, you can have a delici
ous buffet — all you can eat — and a
show that alone is worth the price of
the ticket.
Aileen Wenck and her all-female
cast give it all they’ve got, and that’s
something. The props, make-up
and sets were so good I hardly
noticed them. Costumes were a
constant source of amazement and
delight. With 21 women changing
clothes 10 times, the sheer volume
of costumes was overwhelming, yet
they all looked good. Best of all they
all seemed to match the character of
the woman wearing them.
And speaking of women, it’s high
time that such a large number of
female Players had a chance to dis
play their talents. The overall qual
ity of the performance was fine, with
a few rough spots and many more
shining moments.
The rough spots were very minor
and mostly technical. The generally
excellent sets were marred by a
familiar backdrop of speckled flats.
The lights were a little slow on
blackouts during the first act. The
biggest blooper occurred during Act
II, Scene 3, when the telephone
fang after it had been answered.
One complaint which is endemic to
the ballroom is that it is sometimes
difficult to hear all the lines. Espe
cially when one is laughing hysteri
cally.
The play itself is amusing and
very human. All the women suc
ceed in portraying characters which
are stereotyped and at the same
time multi-faceted. With such a
large cast, there isn’t room to
critique each character adequately.
Marsha Pugsley, in her stage de
but, was very convincing as Mary,
especially in her scenes with her
daughter. She maintained her
character consistently, even
through the changes brought about
by her divorce. The only awkward
moments involved physical contact
with her daughter, innocently
played by Valerie Zrubek, and with
her own mother, Mary Jane Bowen.
Bowen directed most of her lines
to the back of the stage and did not
convince me that she was a mother.
Jo Montgomery, in the role of the
naive Peggy was good and funny,
though she dropped her jaw a bit too
far a bit too often.
Holly Faison as the Countess
DeLage positively stole the show
whenever she was on stage, but her
high voice does not carry well and
many of her lines were lost. Carol
Poitevent was absolutely the
epitome of resigned motherhood.
She was pregnant throughout the
play, which covers a span of over
two years.
Many of the girls played several
parts and some were understanda
bly better in one role than in
another. Cindy Baker was good as
Princess Tamara and even better as
Lucy.

THE GREATEST
SANDWICH
The greatest sandwiches in the Southwest are served from
11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day Monday through Friday on
floor 11M, Conference Tower. The greatness of these sand
wiches is no accident. There are several types of meats and
you can select your choice and mix or match any three pieces
for your sandwich on the bread of your choice.
Two of the several types of bread are sour dough and baked
fresh daily in our Duncan bakery. Further, these breads are
prepared without shortening for the diet conscious guest. For
the greatest taste tempting delight just make your sandwich
exactly like you want it and pop it into one of the handy
micro-wave ovens. This wonderful sandwich and a bowl of
soup for only $1.50 plus tax will place you on cloud 11M.
We agree this is a bit of a long story, but it is difficult to stop
talking about our tasty sandwiches.
Open Sunday 11:00 A.M*. -1:30 P.M. for regular meal only.
