WEDNESDAY, OCT. 22, 1975 Bellard Press Conference Coaches trade praises By DAVID WALKER Sports Writer This past Saturday the 1975 edi tion of the Texas Aggie football team did something only seven other Aggie teams have done in the past 25 years. They assured themselves of a winning season. Half way through the 1975 season the Aggies find themselves 6-0 and the back slapping has already begun for what could be one of the biggest games of the year — Texas A&M versus Baylor. They just have great per sonnel.” coach Emory Bellard Aggie coach Emory echoed yesterday at his press con ference. “Baylor has a fine football team. I think that they are a better team now than they were last year. Over all their talent is stronger, and they’ve got more depth,” he said. “Baylor has a strong offensive line and their receivers are excellent. They’ve got fine running backs in Cleveland Franklin and Pat McNeil and a fine quarterback in Mark Jackson who can hurt you with the pass or run,” Bellard added. Baylor opened the season with a victory over Mississippi then tied Auburn and Michigan before drop ping their last two to South Carolina and Arkansas. Bellard said that Baylor was much better than their 1-2-2 record might indicate. “They’ve had some times where they’ve had some turnovers that have kept them from expres sing what a good football team that they are. Bellard said that the Aggies would have to stop Franklin and McNeil and defend against the play action pass to be successful against the Bears. “McNeil and Franklin can both run inside and outside very effec tively,” Bellard said. “On offense we re going to have to sustain drives and score. Last year we moved the hall a lot on Baylor but we could never get it in the endzone,” Bellard said. He also said that all hands should be fit and ready to go by Saturday. Bubba Bean who has a bruised thigh is expected to be full speed for the Bears along with cornerback Pat Thomas who will be at full speed for the first time since the opening game against Mississippi. Freshman fullback George Woodard who has been out since the LSU game is also expected to be back at full speed this week. Bellard was asked if any changes would be made to strengthen the Aggie punch up the middle where fullback Ronnie Hubby is averaging only 2.9 yards per carry. “Our freshman fullbacks are going to receive quite a bit of con sideration this week,” Bellard said. Hubby is expected to start Satur day. Kickoff time is 1:30 Saturday af ternoon with Athletic Department officials predicting the largest home crowd ever. The record is 52,974 for the Texas game in 1973. Intramurals FLAG FOOTBALL Military: B-2 vs E-2, 13-12; M-l vs Sq. 15, 21-7; Sq. 11 vs Sq. 8, 13-12. Independent: Buzzards vs Rag Knots, 26-0; D.
