The A&M water polo team re turned from a weekend trip to Michigan with their record boosted to 16-0-1 for the season after knock ing out four hard-earned wins in a collegiate tournament. The wins bring Coach Dennis Fosdick s career coaching record at A&M to 99-14-1. Fosdick came to Aggieland in 1971. The weekend started out with a practice game against the Ann Arbor All-Stars, a club team with players from several Michigan teams. “We were sloppy at the start with our passes, said Fosdick. “We got better as the game progressed. Team play was not too good. We had only one assist the entire game (Bill Yates). The Ags prevailed 14-6 with Blake Hinman scoring four. Bill Yates and Doug Adamson scoring two each and Oran Marskbury, Mike Vanderhurst, Lee Davis, Bob Leland, Jim Yates and Steve Moore getting one apiece. East, 14-5. Fosdick called them “big and aggressive and noted it was the best officiated game of the trip. In direct contrast to the All-Stars game, Fosdick called the game “probably our best team effort of the year. It was Steve Moore s best offen sive game ever, scoring the first three goals for the Ags. “We kept the hold open and Moore drove for three fast break shots, said Fos dick. In addition to Moore s three, Jim Yates added four, Hinman and Adamson each had two, and Markshury, Don Wederman and Leland each had one. In the semi-final, the Ags beat Loyola of Chicago 11-8. Fosdick cal led them an “extremely strong team, both physically and skill- wise. Hinman led the team in assists as he did against Bucknell. Fosdick had expressed concern over how well the officials woidd handle the new rules prior to departure. After returning, Fosdick said, “Some were quite good. But at least one was unfamiliar with the new rules. All of them progressed as the tour nament progressed. In the opener of the tournament, the Ags whipped Bucknell Unix er- sitv, one of the top teams from the Bill Yates led scoring with three, followed by Adamson and Jim Yates with 2 and Markshury, Van derhurst, Leland and Moore with one apiece. The Ags met Michigan in the final and played catchup before outlast ing the Wolverines 12-10. Michigan came out strong and ended the first quarter ahead 4-0. “We were flat and the\ scored on four defensive mistakes. Our shoot ing was wax off, said Fosdick. Harris, the Aggies starting goalie, played a quarter in the field and it was during this short span that he scored his two goals. Schueckler said that Harris is having a problem on deciding on where to plax. He also said the increased number of games bis team is playing is furnishing a tremendous amount of experience, something that plagued the Houston club last night. “We re playing more games than ex er before. “We x e got some real good swimmers and they re learning to set picks. We re beginning to plax hall like the xarsitx, said Sehueck- ler. "We ve got to learn that ex erx- hody s not a shooter.
