Senate proposes useless UT resolution
The student Senate will consider
anight a proposal supporting the
spirit behind the protest movement
underway at the University of
Texas.
What could be more useless? If it
is the senate s intention to prevent a
similar situation here, it is ridicul
ous to think that approval of this
support bill will do so.
Approval of this bill might also set
a dangerous precedent for future
senate action. A legislative body
should never support a measure un
less they have done adequate re
search on the matter. Who’s to say
Aggietoons
that the senate is not proposing to
support the wrong group at UT.
The individual senators should
also see it as their duty to know the
feeling of their constituency before
even considering such a matter.
Granted, it’s only a small piece of
legislation, but it will carry the
weight of the senate s name if ap
proved.

Let the senate then put the mea
sure aside until it has considered the
matter further. We can’t just rush
out and support everything in the
name of students’ rights.
