rage »u l TIL- LJr\ I I MLIOINJ WEDNESDAY, OCT. 8, 1975 Press Conference Tech impresses Be I lard By DAVID WALKER Battalion Sports Writer “This is the first team that we’ve played that just throws back their ears and mover north with the ball.” That’s the way Emory Bellard summed up this week’s Aggie foe, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders will enter the game with the undefeated Aggies with a 2-2 record. They won their first two home games over Florida State and New Mexico before losing on the road to Texas and Oklahoma State. The Aggies will be trying for the school’s 400th career victory. Bellard expressed concern over the two Texas Tech quarterbacks. Tommy Duniven and Rodney Alli son. “Both quarterbacks are real good. Duniven is the better passer of the two and Allison is probably the better runner,” Bellard said. “This isn’t to say that either of them isn’t able to do both though,” he added. The quarterbacks aren’t all that the Red Raiders have on the offen sive side that worries Bellard. “They’ve got four good, strong run ners too in Larry Isaac, Cliff Hos kins, Rufus Meyers and Billy Taylor.” Taylor is the big surprise for the Raiders this year. The 6-0, 211 pounder from San Antonio Jay has averaged 9.2 yards every time he’s touched the ball this year. Tech of fensive backfield coach Art Zeleznik says that he feels Taylor is on his way to being a great running back. “He’s executing properly and hitting the holes quick, we are definitely going to try to get him the ball more,” Zeleznik said. And on the defensive side of the line the Red Raiders can be sum med up in two words, Ecomet Bur ley. He was All-Southwest Confer ence and second team All-American last year. He moved to middle guard in the spring and Bellard feels that position change has in no way hurt the play of Burley. After talking about the Red Raid ers for awhile Bellard answered charges that the Kansas State players and sports writers weren’t giving the Aggies any credit for last week’s victory. “You know that the team’s getting stronger when the other team’s start talking about moral victories,” Bel lard said. “In my opinion there was no question who was the best team on the field last week and any way you look at it ten is more than zero and it’s going to stay that way.” One Kansas State player told re porters after the game that “They (A&M) aren’t in the class of the Big Eight,” to which Bellard added. “Well, all I know is that Texas A&M whipped Kansas State 10-0 and they can say anything they want to. ” The Aggie boss announced one position change for Saturday. Frank Myers will be starting at right offen sive guard for last week s starter Billy Lemons. “Frank missed half of his freshman year with a knee injury and it had to be operated on. He was able to go through spring training, but he was never full speed but he has made excellent progress since this fall and deserves a shot at start ing,” Bellard said. On the injury front the Aggies are relatively injury free. Only reserve fullback Bucky Sams is expected to miss the Tech game. He has a groin injury. Ronnie Hubby will start at fullback and will be backed up by freshmen George Woodard and Eddie Hardin.
