The game was called after the fourth inning because of the Ten-Run Rule. ■Kay Don started Mary Moch in the pitching position and substi tuted Robin Oakley after two in nings. ■The Aggies scored two runs to Rjce s one in the first inning. The women hit best in the second as they scored seven runs to Rice’s three. Oakley’s pitching stilled Rice completely in the last two innings. Tin; Aggie women scored two in the third and four in the fourth. ■ Coach Don was pleased with her team’s effort. “We had a good hit ting game — a very good offensive game. Our defense is a little slug gish and still needs a lot of work. But the girls have a good attitude going ifito the tournament this weekend and we should play well. ■ The women will play in the Texas Women s University Invitational this weekend at Denton. They are 2-2 for this year. The captains for this year are seniors Diane Quitta, La Rita Fickey, and Valinda Gut hrie. SOCCER I The soccer team puts its un beaten string on the line this Satur day when it meets the University of Houston Cougars. The Ags previ ously defeated Stephen F. Austin and Lamar University. The Cougars are the Texas Intercollegiate de fending champions. The Aggies will field an extremely powerful offensive front against a very solid defense of the Cougars. “They are very strong,” commented Soccer President Jim Davis. “We will attempt to control the mid- field,’’ he added. Kurt Irgolic, the newly appointed coach, is very enthusiastic. “The team has improved tremendously the last two weeks,” he said. “I ex pect it to be a hard fought battle.” The event will be held on the field between Cain Hall and the Athletic Scholarship office. Starting time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. WATERSKIING By LEE ROY LESCHPER Battalion Staff Writer 103 Can an Aggie expect any Southern hospitality from the in habitants of Baton Rouge after last week’s A&M invasion ofcajun coun try? Members of the A&M water skiing team will find out tomorrow as they journey to the hometown of Louisiana State University for their first intercollegiate tournament of the fall. About twenty-five Aggies will compete in the event against col legiate skiers from Louisiana, Ok lahoma, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas, Ski Club President Charles Porter said. The LSU-sponsored tournament will take place both days this weekend on Bayou Placqueman, in Baton Rouge, with ski-jumping competition Saturday and trick and slalom skiing events Sunday. Five team members compete in each event, emassing points towards a team total. The Aggie ski club will send both men’s and women’s teams to the event, as well as a men’s second team, Porter said, several of the team members have been involved in competitive skiing fro some years, but most began competing in spring of 1974, when the A&M club was formed. “Most of our team members made their first ski jump in competition, he said. In addition to the LSU tourna ment this weekend, the Aggie skiers will be competing in several other intercollegiate events during the fall. Porter said the club will also sponsor their own tournament on Lake Conroe, probably in November. ALL COLLEGE GOLF Associated Press Today brought the final 18 holes at the Lincoln Park West course in the fourth annual Oklahoma City University All College golf classic. Alabama’s Rick Karbowski fired a 66 Thursday to lead the field. Teammate Mike Preston joined Karbowski for a 70-68-138 score for two rounds. The Texas Longhorns Randy Simmons also had a 138. One stroke off the pace at 139 were Jim Mason of Texas, Keith Fergus, of Houston and Tom Graber of Oral Roberts. Others-in the top 10 through 36 holes of the 54-hole tourney were Kirk Goss and Jaime Gonzalez, both of Oklahoma State, and Charles Adams of Southern Methodist, all with 140. Turning in 141 totals were David Edwards of OSU and Robert Hoyt of Houston. Texas controlled the field with a team total of 555, followed by de fending champion Oklahoma State at 562, Houston’s 569; Oral Roberts 571 and Alabama’s 576.
