NEW YORK — The only thing
that seems to change about the Rose
Bowl is the roses.
Although the college football sea
son is only into its third full week, it
seems as though Pasadena will be
getting Part Four of that continuing
series, “New Year’s Day with Ohio
State and Southern Cal.
It’s happened the last three sea
sons, with the Rose Bowl — the
showcase game between the best
from the Big 10 and the Pacific 8 —
rerunning that old favorite, the
Buckeyes against the Trojans.
Ohio State, the Big Ten titan, is
once again playing its bully boy act
in the Midwest, while Southern
Cal, the Pacific 8 elitist, is still kick
ing sand over its foes on the West
Coast.
In the tradition of freshman Ar
chie Griffin, sophomore Archie
Griffin and junior Archie Griffin,
Archie Griffin is still running Ohio
State’s opposition ragged. Last
week the 1974 Heisman Trophy
winner flashed for 128 yards — his
23rd straight 100-plus regular sea
son game — in the Buckeyes’ 17-9
victory over stubborn Penn State.
Meanwhile, in the tradition of
Mike Garrett, O. J. Simpson and
Anthony Davis, there is Ricky Bell,
the tailback sensation who has
rushed for 471 yards in the Trojan’s
two games this season. Last week,
Bell rushed for 215 yards and two
touchdowns in leading Southern
Cal over Oregon State 24-7.
More of the same is expected
Saturday when No. 2 Ohio State
gives North Carolina a dose of
northern inhospitality 42-12 and
No. 3 Southern Cal burns Purdue
27-7.

The Sooners hope Florida’s fun and
sun will bolster a sagging offense
that only piled up 46 points last
week after 62 the week before. The

Tankers win
two in Austin
The Aggie water polo team
traveled to Austin on Tuesdax and
came home toting a pair of victories.
The varsity kept their record
clean with a 16-7 victory with Bill
Yates and Don Reeser each scoring
three goals. Jim Yates, Doug
Adamson and Blake Hinman each
added two points for the Aggie
cause. The game was the second win
for the Ags tins season in just as
many tries.
Goalie Steve Englie was praised
for his work in replacing All-
America Paul McKenzie.
The freshmen also remained un
defeated after nipping the Horn
frosh 4-3. Scoring for the Ags were
Chuck Burr, Roger Lien, Brad
Swendig and Scott Harris, who
scored the winner late in the game
by coming out of goal.

that they have made application for
