With less than three minutes gone in the first quarter the Wings top rusher, Billy Sadler, took the ball over right tackle for the game’s first tally. QB Johnny Walton rolled out for the action point, putting San Antonio in the lead, 8-0. SoCal came back in the second period with a pass by Pat Haden to Chuck Bradley for the first Sun score. The action point failed and the Wings held onto an 8-7 lead. Later in that period Steve Conley swept left for a second Wing TD. y 1 mi 1 - ]l - :4 M M M m M M >)£ M m M m m M 11 m M M m m H k M M M m M M M Tf ^ >7/ Shape -UV Roger Rozell SUMMER SPECIAL Uniperms for Men & Women and Haircut Reg. $40.00 NOW ONLY $ 3 O ■ OO Extra Special: Appointments made 6 weeks in advance from day of haircut - Save $2.00 on next cut and blow dry. And because they don’t take the time to be careful. In the few seconds it takes you to hold a match until it turns cold, and to break it in half, you can think about the forest you’re helping to protect. And that’s something well worth thinking about. And well worth your time protecting. ?.« »T5T«*T5N »T5% *T?T«#t3T« .T5% »VT« fT5T«rTST« TWO KINDS OF APPETITES TWO KINDS OF FRIED CHICKEN MIX AND MATCH And try some of each Some folks like the Colonel’s Original Recipe best. The Wings really came alive in the third quarter, scoring 31 points. Two TDs came within one minute and 11 seconds of each other. A third score came on a 42 yard-nine play drive and the fourth with just 57 seconds left in the quarter. Leading by 46-7, the Wings weren’t quite through yet. Hugo Hollas picked off a Haden pass, after it was tipped by linebacker Billy Hobbs, and ran it back for a 55 yard TD, to end the Wing scoring. With still 6 minutes to go in the game, wide receiver, Dave Yaege (who doubles as the Wings punter) took a snap from the Wings 13 and sent it on its way to a new WFL punting record of 87 yards. In defeating the Sun the Wings not only got revenge for a last min ute defeat by the Anaheim team in the season’s first exhibition game (36-31) but also wound up a four game home stand in which they won all four games (one exhibition against the Memphis Southmen 7-0) and three regular season: Charlotte Hornets 19-3; Shreveport Steamer, 27-10; and Southern California Sun, 54-22. The Wings, the surprise team of the WFL and perhaps all of pro fessional football, take their show on the road for two weeks. On Aug. 16 they meet Charlotte for the second time. And on Aug. 23, they visit the Jacksonville Express. True to its reputation, the Wing defense rose to the occasion in their game with the Sun, containing Anthony Davis to a mere 45 yards. Just as they had stopped Larry Csonka in a dramatic goal line stand in their game with Memphis.
