Page 6 THE BATTALION WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 1975 Industrial conference to hold 25th session ** “Twenty-Five Years of Prog ress” will be celebrated at the 25th Annual Texas Industrial Development Conference Sept. 11-12 at Texas A&M University. The conference is sponsored by the Industrial Economics Re search Division of the Texas En gineering Experiment Station and the Texas Industrial De velopment Council. Dr. Philip Gramm, TAMU economist, is the scheduled keynote speaker. He will be fol lowed by John I. Rucker, Jr., manager of industrial develop ment of the Gulf region, discus sing “Competing for Industry in the South. ” James D. Eppright, vice pres ident of Texas Power & Light Company in Dallas, and Reagan Brown, assistant to Gov. Dolph Briscoe, will also address the as sembly. Perry J. Shepard, director of the conference, said the purpose of the conference is to provide an exchange of ideas regarding in dustrial development and economic growth in Texas. “This brings together the key people of industry in Texas, the state area, and national leaders in the fields of area and economic development,” he said. It is to acquaint the people active in in dustrial development with the latest ideas in effective methods for attracting new industry in Texas communities. Most TAMU students interested in a nursing career will transfer to one of the 11 colleges and univer sities in Texas offering a four-year program and bachelor’s degree, said Dr. Gayle Schmidt, Coordinator for Nursing Education. Each school of nursing has specific entrance and course re quirements. If all are met, students can expect to transfer when an open ing occurs. Generally, Schmidt said, stu dents are enrolled at the TAMU campus for two years. Most nursing schools require a minimum of 60 hours before enrollment in their programs. Texas colleges and universities of fering a bachelor s degree in nursing include Prairie View A&M Univer sity, University of Texas, Mary Hardin-Baylor College at Belton, West Texas State University nyon and the Baylor University Nursing School at Dallas. Dallas Baptist College, Texas Woman s University at Denton, Texas Christ ian University, Houston Baptist College, University of St. Thomas at Houston and Incarnate Word Col lege at San Antonio also have degree programs. Gerontology pilot program to begin in fall STEPHENVILLE — The Tarle- ton State University Institute of Gerontology will produce a pilot program this fall to train personnel in long term care facilities. Institute head Dr. Mary Sue Staig said this “normally means nursing homes but is not limited to such. McAllen, president of the Texas State Chamber of Commerce, will discuss “Assistance Availa ble to Texas Communities. Friday morning a discussion of the Texas Industrial Commission by its executive director James H. Harwell will be held. A panel session at 10 a.m. on “Changes in Federal Financial Programs, led by Jerry Heare, director of Community De velopment in the Texas Indust rial Commission will follow. The final speaker of the con ference will be Dr. Dean F. Berkley, director of the division of administration and adminis trative studies, at Indiana Uni versity. His scheduled topic is “Digitalitis.” Closing remarks will be deli vered by Shepard and Frank Birkhead, Jr., manager of the McAllen Industrial Board.
