House bill
considers
raises
The House Public Education
Committee is considering a school
finance bill that will raise starting
teachers’ salaries to $8,000 per year.
Representative Bill Presnal,
(D-Bryan), said Thursday.
A subcommittee has worked out
the bill which would increase
salaries for teachers $140 per month
across the board for the 1975 school
year.
Other provisions in the bill would
increase transportation funds by
approximately 75 percent with a
smaller increase for maintenance
and operations of public schools.
Several school finance bills have
been proposed to the legislature.
“The subcommittee proposal
represents a combination of all
these,” Presnal said.
The bill would also provide funds
for a bilingual program for kinder
garten through the third grade.
