Opposition creates bid withdrawal AUSTIN (AP) — At the appointee’s request, Gov. Dolph Briscoe withdrew his nomination Wednesday of Ford Albritton Jr. of Bryan to the Texas College Coor dinating Board. Albritton’s letter asking for the withdrawal said that Sen. Peyton McKnight, D-Tyler, apparently had enough votes to block the appoint ment, so further debate would sim ply harm the coordinating hoard. McKnight once served with Al britton as a Texas A&M regent, hut has never revealed publicly his reasons for opposing Albritton’s confirmation by the Senate. K. A.
