WACO, Tex. — The Texas Ag
gies came to town Friday to take a
look at the Baylor Bear baseball
team that everyone in Waco was
talking about. They didn’t like what
they saw.
Baylor, 9-1 going into the series,
took two of three from the Aggies in
teh opening series of the 1975
Southwest Conference baseball sea
son.
The Aggies lost Friday’s single
game by a 4-3 count. It was a frus
trating afternoon for the Ags as they
had ten hits but left seven men on
base.
The Aggies jumped out front in
the third with a two run spot. Mike
Frazier led off the inning with a
sharp single up the middle. After
moving to second on a ground out
Frazier scored on right fielder Bill
Raymer’s double. Second baseman
Mike Schraeder’s double scored
Raymer for the Aggies’ second run
of the inning.
walk. The next two Bears went out
before first baseman Ken Kolkhorst
drove Woods in from first with a
double. The Aggies appeared to
have the runner out at the plate but
the ball skipped by catcher Tommy
Hawthorne.
The Aggies tied it in the seventh
when Kirk Campbell and Rick
Crabtree led off with back-to-back
singles. Campbell scored when
Hawthorne grounded out.
The lead didn’t last long as the
Bears scored the winning run in the
bottom of the eighth when Dugan
started the inning with his first
homerun of the season.
An Aggie rally was cut short in the
ninth when the Aggies got two sing
les from Al Thurmond and Frazier
but on Frazier’s single Thurmond
was thrown out at the plate for the
final out.
The two teams got together
Saturday for a doubleheader and for
most of the afternoon it looked like
the Aggies were going to sweep.
In the first game the Maroon won

ond on a wild pitch. He scored on a
Schraeder single for the Aggies’ last
run of the day.
The nightmare began in the bot
tom of the third as the Bears scored
seven runs, all with two out, to
doom A&M for the second time in
three games.
The Bears added two more later
to make the final score 9-6.
Coach Tom Chandler admitted
that his team, “just weren’t in shape
yet,’’ going into the second game as
they had only played four games to
Baylor’s ten.
“It’s still early,” said Chandler.
“We’ve got 21 conference games
left, we just have to get in better
shape and get healthy and then we ll
be okay.”
The Aggies are 5-2 on the season.
They are in San Antonio today to
play St. Mary’s in a doubleheader
and will host SMU in a SWC three
game series this Friday and Satur
day. They will play a single game
Fridayat3p.m. and a doubleheader
Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

The lead was shortlived as Baylor
tied it up in the bottom of the
fourth. With two out Aggie pitcher
David Lockett hit Baylor rightfiel-
der Roger Dugan. The next two
Baylor batters reached first via the
walk. With the bases loaded the
number nine man in the Bear bat
ting order drove a single up the
middle for the two Baylor runs.
After the Aggies went out in the
fifth Baylor came back with the go

It was another walk that led to the
Bear tally. Leftfielder Leonard

only 80 pitches en route to victory.
Gibson pitched to the minimum

five innings. In the Baylor half of the
second inning Buddy Wooley led off
with a single but was thrown out

fourth Woods walked but was the
front end of a Julian Serna double

needed.
The second game was a night
mare for the Aggies as they jumped
out to a 6-0 lead only to lose 9-6.
After a scoreless first inning the
Aggies exploded for five runs in the
second. Jim Bratsen and Schraeder
led off with walks. With one out
