ARE YOU A UNITARIAN
WITHOUT
KNOWING IT?
1. Do you believe The Bible to be an inspiring human document, rather than
the literal “word of God”?
2. Do you believe that man is not condemned by the doctrine of “original
sin”, but is inherently capable of improvement?
3. Do you beiieve the development of character to be more important than
the accepting of religious creeds?
4. Do you believe the purpose of religion is to help us live this life nobly and
constructively, rather than to emphasize the preparation for an after
existence?
The Unitarian answers are affirmative. Join with other religious liberals who
insist upon individual freedom of belief and the use of reason in religion.

him. Bill Garland, the prospective
editor, was found guilty by the
Alpha Phi Omega Election Com
mission of violating the Texas Stu
dent Publications election code
while running for the office by “con
tinually campaigning in university
owned dormitories. He had been
warned by a resident assistant that
such activities were prohibited by
dorm policies.
Garland maintains that although
his campaign activities carried him
to several men’s dorms, he did not
think such canvassing was in viola
tion of the election rules. There is a
Student Court hearing today to de
termine whether the disqualifica
tion will be allowed to stand.
If Garland’s disqualification is
upheld, the issue becomes confus
ing. The Election Commission must
choose whether to name second-
place Tagliarino editor-elect or to
call for a new election or even to
dump the matter on the board by
reporting only that a vacancy exists
in the editor’s position.

At RICE, the Campus Store pre
sented a check for $50,000 to the
Pub Board of Control. This makes
the Pub an entirely profit-making
operation. These profits will be
used to provide live and continuing
&
entertainment, pay the salaries of
student employees and insure that
prices will be far below those of any
other establishment in the Rice
area.
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
AT AUSTIN is still constructing, as
we are. The Daily Texan pointed out
that at a time when the university
president is proposing a cut-back in
the budget of the College of
Humanities and at a time when stu
dent interest in inter-collegiate ath
letics is at a low, the University is
about to present its athletics de
partment with three new facilities,
costing $37 million.
The newspaper said that the
added construction will not help
Texas in academic endeavors, but
will help the University become a
good-looking institution.
The SOUTHERN METHODIST
UNIVERSITY newspaper reports
that campus fraternities are chang
ing their pledge programs in order
to abide by the University anti
hazing policy. Some fraternities will
have to change most of their pledge
programs but one says that they will
only have to omit their scavenger
hunts and Hell Week. They added
that they will rename Hell Week
“Help Week.”
